np-gp-verge-collar
Victorian Gold Plated 'Verge' necklace

Description : A ‘verge escapement’ is from the earliest pocket watches, and is the mechanical gear that controls its rate by allowing the gear train to advance at regular intervals called 'ticks'. These were the most important components of the original timepieces ever created. The work 'verge' comes from the Latin root, 'stick' or 'rod. Developments of these timekeepers dates back to the 13th century, and were first used to oscillate and ring a steeple bell. The ones we see here are most likely from the mid-1800. These components are also called escapements. As the world of timekeeping and mechanical engineering changed over centuries, these escapements were disassembled from the watches and used in other designs. This necklace is a composite of 15 verge escapements from original timepieces. The pieces are gold plated to shine beautifully, and are in very good shape. What a piece of engineering history to be worn about the neck, and is certainly is a conversation starter.

Item Number : P23485

Category : NECKLACE

Brand : CF
