Native American Sterling silver and Turquoise Turtle earrings
Native American Sterling silver and Turquoise Turtle earrings
Description : Possibly fabricated by JP Begay, a Dine/Navajo jewelry artist, these turtle earrings are signed JP and stamped sterling. Hanging from shepherd hook style earwires, the turtles are 35mm long and 24mm wide. 2 stunning natural oval cabochons of turquoise are bezel set to represent the body and the shell of each turtle. The shell of a turtle represents protection. Turquoise is used in Native American jewelry for many reasons. It was available from different mines throughout the Southwest, but also means safety, protection, and symbolised the water and sky, all considered sacred. These hand fabricated silver turtles are animated and life-like. The symbol of the turtle represents longevity and wisdom. Turquoise is the birthstone for December.
